SEO Optimized Blogs

Blogs are a way for a company or brand to reveal thoughts, opinions, and grow thought leadership. They are a fantastic way to increase a website’s visibility on search engines through Search Engine Optimization.

There's a lot of information out there for free, so you've got to figure out what makes your information different.

How Does a Blog Help with a Company's Brand?

Every company has a unique voice, or at least it should. Why? A company is doing its best to communicate value and reason to their audience. They do this because, at the end of the day, they want to sell their product or service, but they also want to create loyalty and returning business.

And let’s be honest, no one wants to be approached and sold something, unless they come to the table first. The goal of a blog is not to sell anything, its to provide value and information so that when the reader has a need to purchase the company’s product or service, they already think of a brand they agree with and support.

One of the best ways to do this is to have a consistent blog with relevant information, there is a ton of free information out there, so a brand needs to ensure they are unique and stand out.

Why having a Blog Still Matters:

Largely, I am faced with the question of why my client should invest any sort of time or money into creating content for their websites. The most common reason I hear time and time again is that, “No one spends time on reading blogs anymore.”

My response to this often requires an explanation because its more nuanced than just, “Yes people do.” When the internet first started up, the consumption of content was very different to how it is now and even now, with AI, it is shifting and changing faster than we all indiviudally can keep up. Its easier to say that people don’t read than it is to delve into the details of how to make internet content work and to keep up with how readers are engaing with the internet.

Internet content, now, is more than just the words on the screen. Its a set of important steps to follow and an online strategy to optimising its presence in order to have it seen by readers. We’ve all heard of the dreaded algorithm but if you understand the nuances of the platforms you are posting to, suddenly you’ll find that people ARE in fact reading and engaging with content.

My answer is often accompanied by something most clients don’t like to hear, but it remains the truth. Online content needs a clear strategy and plan, it requires time, effort, and a budget. I’m not talking thousands, but I try to emphasise the importance at the very least of the cost, even if that is an employees time. With this, you’ll website content can be successful, bring in viewers and help to generate leads.

How to Brief a Writer for a Successful Project:

To have a campaign or project completed quickly, a strong creative brief is key. It speeds up the process from the professionals side as they will be asking less questions to get started but it also helps the review process on the client side.

What to Include in a Strong Blog Brief

  • Topic: Set a clear direction from the start by defining the subject you want the writer to cover.
  • Goal: What is the goal of the blog or written content that you would like the piece to achieve.
  • Target Audience: Share who the blog is for. Include their industry, level of expertise, pain points, and what the audience are hoping to get out of the blog.
  • Tone and Style: Should the blog be professional, conversational, persuasive, witty, or technical? Mention if you have a style guide or a preferred reference brand.
  • SEO Requirements: Provide focus keywords, meta description guidance, internal linking suggestions, or any other SEO priorities. Some writers can do this research and provide this information to you as well. It’s important to know if you would like this as part of the service or not.
  • Deadline & Review: Be clear if you have a specific deadline for the project as reviews and edits may take longer  than expected.
